Stay: Visa-free Temporary Visitor landing permission: initially 90 days; an extension up to a total of 6 months requires a separate application in Japan

Conditions: A full British citizen passport holder may enter Japan without a visa as a Temporary Visitor. The initial period granted on landing is 90 days. Under the bilateral arrangement, a British citizen who wishes to remain beyond 90 days may apply to a Regional Immigration Bureau before the initial permission expires for an extension up to a total of 6 months; that longer period is not automatic. Remunerative activity is not permitted and final landing permission remains an immigration decision.
