Stay: Visa-free Schengen tourism for less than 90 days in any 180-day period across the whole area
Conditions: A United States ordinary-passport holder does not need a tourist visa for an Austrian stay under 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. Austria applies the common Schengen calculation, so qualifying days spent in other Schengen countries count against the same allowance and the limit does not restart at the Austrian border. The passport must meet Schengen issue-date and post-departure validity requirements. Visa-free entry does not authorise work or residence and does not guarantee admission; border authorities may require proof of purpose, accommodation, funds and onward or return travel.
